I do like how it's played out to be cheesy, but keeping plans, even pragmatic ones, secret is one of the least cheesy things in this.

It hasn't really come up, but Professor Dastard is a tenured faculty member and has been teaching at E.V.I.L. for over 20 years. You don't last that long here if you don't know what you're doing.
